Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Bishop’s Office Curia Administration Assistant is a maximum-term, 12-month position, providing essential administrative support to the Bishop’s Office and the Moderator of the Curia.

Reporting to the Executive Assistant to the Moderator of the Curia, the position provides hands-on experience across a wide range of administrative tasks, including general office support, meeting and event coordination, record management, and day-to-day assistance within the Bishop’s Office. You will work closely with clergy, parishes, and diocesan staff, gaining valuable experience while learning how a complex, values-based organisation operates.

The successful applicant will bring strong communication and organisational skills, confidence with common office systems, and a willingness to learn and take initiative. An understanding of, or respect for, the Catholic mission of the Diocese is essential. As a trusted support role within the Bishop’s Office, you will work with care, discretion, and professionalism in line with diocesan expectations.

Desired Skills and Experience

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA 

  • Interest in developing a career in administration and willingness to learn
  • A capacity to understand, promote and model the Catholic mission of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle
  • Proficiency in use of common office computer applications e.g. Office 365, Teams, etc
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing timelines and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders including Clergy, Parishes and Diocesan staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential 

  • Certificate III in Business Administration or equivalent experience
