The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant to support the Chief Governance Officer (CGO) across governance, legal, risk, compliance, and assurance functions.
This opportunity will suit an experienced executive or senior administrator, ideally with exposure to legal, governance, or regulatory environments, who is highly organised, detail-focused, and comfortable managing sensitive matters in a senior leadership context.

This role sits at the centre of the Diocese’s governance framework and requires discretion, professionalism, and exceptional organisational skills. You will provide high‑level legal and compliance administration, including document preparation, matter and file management, and liaison with external legal advisors. You will also support the preparation and review of agendas, minutes, briefs, and governance papers, and ensure effective follow‑up across Councils, Boards, and governance bodies. In addition, you will assist with the coordination of the CGO’s priorities and manage key correspondence and stakeholder interactions.
As a key point of contact within the Governance team, you will work closely with senior leaders, governance bodies, and external advisors, supporting a culture of accountability, transparency, and effective risk management.
Desired Skills and Experience
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
Demonstrated experience in executive support roles, preferably at senior leadership level
High-level organisational and time management skills
Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
Experience in legal document preparation, legal research and contract administration
Understanding of governance, risk and compliance frameworks
Familiarity with not-for-profit or faith-based organisational contexts
QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate IV or higher in Business Administration or equivalent experience
Current Working with Children Check
Experience in legal administration or support within a governance, legal or compliance environment. (Desirable)
Diploma or higher qualification in Legal Services, Paralegal Studies or equivalent. (Desirable)
