St Clare’s High School, Taree is seeking a permanent full-time Careers Advisor (0.5 FTE) / Classroom Teacher (0.5 FTE) to join the team from January 2027. Teachers from all Key Learning Areas are encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to combine classroom teaching with a key role in supporting students as they explore their future pathways. As Careers Advisor, you will work closely with students, families, staff and external partners to provide meaningful careers education, guidance and opportunities that empower students to make informed decisions about further education, training and employment.

Established in 1971, St Clare’s High School is a systemic, coeducational regional secondary school serving students from across Taree, Forster/Tuncurry, Wingham, Bulahdelah, Krambach/Nabiac and Gloucester. The school proudly continues a tradition of quality Catholic secondary education in the Manning/Great Lakes region that began with the Sisters of St Joseph in Taree in 1926.

Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Teachers in a catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live purposeful lives. 

  • supported by the catholic community of which they are a vital part, teachers invite students and their families into a faith-filled educational experience. 
  • teachers promote the school as a place of learning and excellence where creativity and curiosity are nurtured, and students are connected with their world through deep learning and engagement. 
  • teachers differentiate learning for students according to their educational needs and abilities and are responsible for the creation of effective assessment practices and quality teaching programs.

Desired Skills and Experience

The teacher will promote the school as a place of learning and excellence in accordance with contemporary evidence-based learning and wellbeing principles (including digital learning) and will ensure the ongoing development and implementation of pedagogical practices that impact on student learning outcomes.  The teacher will acknowledge and agree to the requirement to work within the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

CRITERIA/EXPERIENCE

  1. Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school. 
  2. Ability to apply appropriate knowledge to plan and prepare contemporary career education, workplace learning programs and provide advice which meets the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; and empower them to work towards attainment of their potential.
  3. Knowledge of the NSW curriculum and ability to develop, plan and implement strategic initiatives and innovative practices that support career learning and positive post-school opportunities. 
  4. Demonstrated ability to support students and families to plan and prepare for post-school transition to further study or employment.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff and members of the wider community and other stakeholders to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational and post-school outcomes.
  6. Demonstrate an innovative and agile mindset that supports and enhances a culture of continuous improvement within the school environment.

Qualifications/Accreditations

  • Qualifications as a four-year trained teacher experience. 
  • Post graduate qualifications in Career Education (desirable).
  • Active NESA Accreditation. 
  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number. 
  • Completion of anaphylaxis training.
  • Completion of CPR training.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary is in accordance with New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2025.
