Catherine McAuley Primary School, Medowie, is seeking an exceptional Primary School Teacher to join our founding team from Term 4, 2026.

Commencing at 0.6 FTE in Term 4, 2026, the position will increase to Permanent Full-Time (1.0 FTE) from Term 1, 2027, when the school officially opens to students.

This is a rare opportunity to be part of something from the very beginning.

Opening in 2027, Catherine McAuley Primary School will be a brand-new Catholic primary school serving the growing Port Stephens community. As a founding teacher, you will play an important role in shaping the culture, curriculum and learning practices that will define the school for years to come.

Term 4, 2026 will provide dedicated time to help prepare the school for its opening. Working collaboratively with the leadership and foundation team, you will lead the planning and preparation of your Stage, helping establish high-quality curriculum, assessment and teaching practices and creating engaging learning environments ready to welcome the school’s first students.

You will also contribute to key school-wide priorities such as First Nations education, sport, wellbeing and student leadership, helping develop the resources, structures and practices that will bring these areas to life from day one.

From Term 1, 2027, the position will increase to 1.0 FTE and transition into a classroom teaching role within the school’s contemporary and collaborative learning model. Teachers will work alongside colleagues to co-plan, co-design and co-deliver learning, using evidence and student data to continually strengthen practice and maximise outcomes for every student.

The purpose-built school has been designed with this approach in mind. Modern, flexible learning environments will support team teaching, collaboration and innovative practice, creating spaces where both students and staff can learn, connect and thrive.

Located within a dynamic education precinct alongside Catherine McAuley Catholic College and St Nicholas Early Education Centre, the school will offer exciting opportunities for connection and collaboration across the educational journey.

And the opportunity extends beyond the school gates. Nestled in the beautiful Port Stephens region, Medowie combines coastal living with the warmth of a growing semi-rural community. Just 34 kilometres from Newcastle CBD and less than an hour from the Hunter Valley, it offers an enviable balance of career and lifestyle, with beaches, national parks and some of the Hunter’s best regional attractions within easy reach.

If you are a passionate and innovative educator excited by the opportunity to help build a school, shape its culture and create something lasting from the ground up, we would love you to be part of the founding team at Catherine McAuley Primary School, Medowie.
