St Joseph’s College, Lochinvar is seeking a dedicated and hands‑on Groundsperson to join our team in a Temporary Part Time capacity (15 hours per week) from April to December 2026. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces and enjoys working in a supportive school community. The position is scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays, 7.5 hours per day.

Nestled in the picturesque Hunter Valley, St Joseph’s College offers a unique working environment where heritage charm meets modern facilities. Our grounds surround a blend of historic buildings—including a Chapel and Heritage Centre—and contemporary learning spaces such as a new Administration and Resource Centre, a purpose-built hall with an adjoining Café & Hospitality Centre, a modern Technology/Trade Centre, and revitalised Creative and Performing Arts areas.

Founded in 1883 by the Sisters of St Joseph, the College is a vibrant co‑educational secondary school with 940 students from Years 7 to 12. As our Groundsperson, you’ll play a key role in helping maintain the safe, attractive and functional outdoor spaces that support daily school life.

Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Groundsperson under the direction of the principal contributes to the effective and efficient operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of maintenance and upkeep of the schools’ grounds. The Groundsperson will be required to support the school with (including but not limited to) building and grounds maintenance, cleaning and opening/closing the school premises.

Desired Skills and Experience

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school 
  • Demonstrated experience performing maintenance tasks unsupervised;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the school's maintenance program;
  • Experience in managing and maintaining school grounds and buildings or similar experience ;
  • Experience or willingness to comply with relevant security provisions;
  • Demonstrated understanding of current Work Health and Safety requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate III or Trade Certificate in relevant field (desirable)
  • Current paid Working with Children Check (WWCC) number

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary is in accordance with New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2025.
