St Paul's Primary School, Rutherford is seeking a Temporary Part Time (10 hours per week) Canteen Assistant to join the team in October 2025

If you are a friendly, reliable, and community-minded Canteen Assistant, we would love for you to join our team in a temporary part-time role beginning October 2025 and running up to July 2026.

Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Canteen Officer is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of the school canteen including opening and closing the canteen and preparing and selling menu items as per the canteen menu. The position requires the ability to follow relevant food handling and money handling policies in addition to maintaining a cooperative working environment and provide a friendly, customer focused service to students and staff within the school community. 

The Canteen Officer will support the development of strong relationships within the school community in particular with the students, parents and volunteers, teachers and other school personnel.

The Canteen Manager is responsible for the profitable management and operation of the school canteen according to the relevant policies, procedures and WHS legislation. The Canteen Manager will support the development of strong relationships within the school community in particular with the students, parents and volunteers, teachers and other school personnel. 

Desired Skills and Experience

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

Canteen Officer Level 3

  • Demonstrated understanding of current Work, Health and Safety requirements. 
  • Knowledge of preparation, proper storage and disposal of food.
  • Knowledge of cleaning, and hand hygiene.
  • Practical experience in the operation of a café or canteen. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and the ability to achieve organisational and team values, goals and objectives and to behave professionally. 
  • Experience in handling cash. 

Canteen Manager Level 3A

  • Experience in food preparation and service setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills particularly with children.
  • Demonstrated skills in operating a food business.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a small team and to show appropriate initiative. 
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to control day-today operations.
  • Experience with volunteers and parent groups.
  • Knowledge of basic financial management systems.
  • Understanding of work health and safety and ability to meet legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in food safety and handling. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic Food Handling Certificate (Canteen Officer and Canteen Manger)
  • Current Food Supervisor Certificate (Canteen Manager) 
  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number. 

 

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary is in accordance with New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2023.
