The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Temporary Part-Time (0.6FTE) Education Officer - Early Learning. The Catholic Schools Office is responsible for the leadership, operation, and management of systemic schools within the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. We educate over 21,000 students across 44 primary schools, 11 secondary schools, one K-12 school, one flexible learning centre, and one special school. Our mission is to provide high-quality education grounded in Catholic values and traditions.
The purpose of Education Officer – Early Learning is to support and enhance the early learning experience (K-2) across schools by providing guidance on implementing the Early Learning Policy, curriculum, and pedagogical practices. This includes collaborating with key stakeholders to build capacity, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The role also focuses on facilitating professional development, supporting transitions for children entering Kindergarten, and promoting student growth through coordinated efforts with School Improvement and High Potential Gifted Education teams.
Desired Skills and Experience
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to ensure a Catholic Perspective across the curriculum
Demonstrated commitment to and thorough knowledge of Early Learning research, pedagogical strategies, and evidence-based practices; with experience designing contemporary and innovative learning opportunities aligned with the Early Learning Policy and Procedure documents.
Ability to collaboratively plan and evaluate with teachers, modelling and sharing best practices in Early Learning both within the school environment and across the system of schools.
Sound understanding of the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC), the National Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and the Early Learning Policy and Procedure documents.
Strong knowledge of current curriculum, assessment, and reporting requirements in primary schools, with the capacity to lead initiatives in curriculum development and cross-curricular content through an Early Learning lens.
Proven success in improving student outcomes in K-2 educational settings, using assessment data effectively to inform instruction, provide feedback, and optimize educational results.
Expertise in setting up systems for measuring the impact of curriculum initiatives, professional learning, and teaching strategies. Ability to track outcomes and adjust strategies to ensure continual improvement in student achievement.
Experience working collaboratively with teachers and to model and share best practice in Early Learning within the school environment and across the system of schools.
Understanding of Successful Foundations within the Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools. (Desirable)
Experience in a formal leadership position and/or other relevant position. (Desirable)
QUALIFICATIONS
Four-year trained teacher classification, including experience in the Early Years of school
Postgraduate qualifications at Master level, preferably including Early Childhood qualifications
Active NESA Accreditation
Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number
