CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning is a not-for-profit organisation and an agency of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, committed to supporting our community. Our Martha Café is based in the heart of Newcastle West and operates Monday to Friday (7:30am-3:30pm), with additional catering, functions, and conference work offered after hours and on weekends.
We’re looking for a friendly and capable Casual Food & Beverage Attendant with solid coffee experience to join our team. Day to day, you’ll be making great coffee, serving customers with warmth and professionalism, helping keep the café running smoothly, and assisting with catering, events, and functions - all while maintaining high food safety standards. The role offers around 10-15 hours per week, with flexibility to support a healthy work-life balance and the potential to move into a permanent part-time position. You’ll work alongside our Professional Chef and Food & Beverage Coordinator in a supportive, community-minded team that also provides meaningful employment opportunities for vulnerable young people, refugees, and asylum seekers.

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
- Sound experience working in CAFÉ/restaurants and high-volume espresso bars with experience as a barista.
- Friendly, outgoing personality with a commitment to providing effective customer service and building relationships.
- The patience and empathy to work with staff from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds and young people who have been in care.
- Proven high level of self-motivation and ability to work autonomously and within a team environment to achieve operational outcomes in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision and direction.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written/verbal), including the ability to work and communicate effectively with employees, the community and external stakeholders.
- Have exceptional organisational and time management skills with a high attention to detail when performing duties
- Ability to work flexible hours in accordance with functions, bookings and catering requirements
- The ability to adhere to company WH&S policies and Food Safety Guidelines to ensure a safe and productive CAFÉ.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Working with Children Clearance must be obtained from the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian prior to commencing the role and must remain current during the entire period in the role. It is the position holder’s responsibility to renew their Clearance prior to expiry.
- National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
- NSW Drivers Licence (Desired)
